| TITLE I |
Improving the Academic Achievement of Disadvantaged Students
Program Purpose
• Ensures that all children have the opportunity to obtain a high quality education and reach proficiency on challenging state academic standards and assessments.
• Requires that Title I funds be used only for effective educational practices grounded in scientifically based research.
• Requires that all teachers teaching in core academic subjects are highly qualified by the end of the 2005-06 school year.
Type of Title I Program Funded in the Mother Lode School District
Targeted Assistance Program
• Title I funds provide targeted services to low achieving students.
• Additional academic assistance may be provided in Reading and/or Math for students in grades 1-5 who meet the eligibility requirements.
• Services may be provided before or during school hours to increase learning time.
• Parents of eligible students are notified the first month of school. |
| TITLE II |
| Part A and Part D
Program Purpose
Part A: Preparing, Training and Recruiting High Quality Teachers
• Increases accountability for student performance by putting quality teachers in classrooms.
• All State Education Agencies must develop a plan to ensure that all teachers meet the “highly qualified” requirement by the end of the 2005-06 school year.
• Requires that school principals attest annually whether a school is in compliance with the “highly qualified” requirement.
• All professional development activities supported with Title II funds must be based on scientifically based research, and must correlate with increases in student achievement.
Part D: Enhancing Education Through Technology
• Improve student academic achievement through the use of technology in elementary and secondary schools.
• Assist students to become technologically literate by the end of eighth grade.
• Integrate technology resources and systems with teacher training and professional development.
• Requires that at least 25 percent of Part D funds received by districts be used for high quality professional development in the integration of technology into instruction.
• Requires districts and schools to establish technology goals that are aligned with state academic standards to improve student achievement.
• Requires districts write and follow a Technology Plan. |
| TITLE III |
| English Language Acquisition, Enhancement, and Academic Achievement
Program Purpose
• Assist schools in teaching English to limited English proficient students.
• Ensure that limited English proficient students meet the same challenging state academic standards required of all students.
• Requires that language instruction curricula used to teach limited English proficient students are tied to scientifically based research and are demonstrated to be effective.
• Requires teachers receive professional development in language acquisition and language development strategies.
• Establishes annual achievement goals for limited English proficient students that relate to gains in English proficiency in addition to meeting state academic standards.
• Requires annual reading and language arts assessments of limited English proficient students.
Services to Limited English Proficient Students • Services may be provided before or during school hours to increase learning time.
• Parents are notified annually regarding their child’s placement in a specialized language instruction program.
• Parents are notified annually regarding their child’s progress toward attaining English proficiency |
