Dear Parents/Guardians of the Indian Creek Students:
I am writing this letter to provide information to you regarding the traffic congestion and shortage of parking at Indian Creek School. I want you to know the District is doing everything possible to improve traffic flow and parking to provide a safe environment for you and your children.
There are several things the district has done or in the process of considering doing to improve the above mentioned challenges, including the following:
Completed
· Adjusted the start and dismissal times at IC to avoid El Dorado County Office of Education and Folsom Lake College traffic
· Provided a free shuttle bus from Green Valley Church for the am and pm
· Provided a shuttle bus from Charles Brown School for the am and pm
· Daily monitoring and adjustments of procedures to facilitate improved traffic flow
· Changed the traffic flow for buses and vehicles to improve traffic flow
· Changed bus routes to save costs and improve efficiency
In Progress or In Consideration
· Re-vamping several bus routes to improve arrival times and efficiency
· Considering construction of a road between Indian Creek parking lot and Folsom Lake College
· Considering construction of a parking lot on the lower field area
· Considering staggered times between buses and vehicles for drop off and pick up
The district values your input regarding potential alternatives and solutions to the traffic and parking challenges we face. Please submit any ideas you have to Joe Grossman, Ed Watkins or me. The traffic and parking challenges we face are not new, but have been magnified as a result of school reconfiguration this summer.
It is important to remember the state budget crisis has caused all school districts to look for ways to save money. We were fortunate to be able to save money by reconfiguring our district from three to two schools. The savings to the district allows us to offer some of the lowest class sizes in the County. In addition, we are able to afford a district counselor and provide a band program for our students.
In closing, I want to thank you for your patience and support as we work at providing the best education and improving safety and efficiency in our school district.
Tim Smith
Superintendent
